How to configure BannerBeat to pull in content from an external RSS feed
1. Create a BannerBeat category ready to accept new entries coming from the RSS feed
If you've already created the category, make a note of the name of the category.
To create a new category:
- Click the Grips menu in the top navigation and choose BannerBeat.
- From the BannerBeat Dashboard, in the top navigation select Categories > Add New.
- Be sure to set a display page of an existing page or choose to create a new page. (information on this form is related to your website and not the feed you plan on incorporating.
2. Add New Incoming Feed
- Click the Grips menu in the top navigation and choose BannerBeat.
- From the BannerBeat Dashboard, in the top navigation select Entries > Manage Incoming Feeds.
- Click the Add New button.
- Fields:
- Name - name is for internal reference and helps organize different feeds if you use multiple sources
- Category - the category where new entries will be saved
- Feed URL - a URL to an XML page that contains the entries from the external feed
- Layout - the BannerBeat layout used when displaying the feed on your website
- Create Tags - option to create tags encountered in new incoming entries
- Listing Link - choice for listing page to link to a page within your own website or to the full entry page on source site
- Polling Frequency - the number of minutes between feed checks for new entries
- Auto Delete Entries - a choice between don't delete, delete entries older than a given number of days, or delete by quantity os only a certain number of entries will be kept
- Content Filtering
- Enclosure Content Type - a choice to save all incoming entries or only entries with or without videos
- Including Keywords - a choice to set a keyword and only incoming entries containing keyword would be saved
- Excluding Keywords - a choice to set a keyword an any incoming entries containing keyword would NOT be saved
3. Add Dynamic Content Markers (if needed)
Once a feed it set, BannerBeat will begin pulling entries from the configured feed and save them as new BannerBeat entries in the database. Those entries would be shown on the website in the same manner as if they were manually added entries.
If the BannerBeat category is not setup to be displayed on an existing website page, you will need to add the marker to a page.
This can be done by managing an existing page or creating a new page within the website and using the “Add Dynamic Content” drop down to select a BannerBeat Listing or Category Listing.
