USING WEB SITE ARTICLES TO GET MORE VISITOR TRAFFIC
The number one reason
people go online is not to buy things, but to find free information. This may
be depressing if you sell things online, however, it's not all bad news. The
good news is that free articles can bring your Web site more traffic, which in
turn, can help increase sales.
Writing articles is one of the quickest and easiest ways to bring
targeted traffic to your Web site. Articles will bring you traffic
from three sources:
Newsletters - Since very few ezine (electronic magazine) publishers
write their own articles, they are constantly looking for free articles
to include within their publications.
Other Web sites - There are many Web sites out there that are looking
for quality and relevant content to add to their database in order
to keep their visitors happy. These Webmasters need your articles.
Search Engines - Search engines will help you garner traffic from
your articles in two ways. The first way is by indexing the content
contained within your article. If the content is relevant to what
people are searching, the search engines will drive them to your
Web site. Additionally, if other Web sites post your article and
link back to your (the article author's) Web site, this will increase
your link popularity. Search engines, such as Google, use link popularity
(who's linking to your Web site) as a gauge for ranking your Web
site in their search results. Higher rankings means more traffic
from the particular phrase upon which someone is searching.
Here are some tips for getting the most from your articles:
1. Start your article with a sentence that grabs the reader's attention.
Many times, readers will to read the rest of your article based upon
the first sentence. If it intrigues them and engages them, they'll
keep reading.
2. Place an email signup form on your Web site and invite visitors
to join so they can receive notification when new articles are published.
Don't forget to actually email an announcement when a new article
has been published.
3. Don't put a date in your article copyright. You may have written
an article a couple of years ago, but it may still be relevant. If
the copyright reads 2003, publishers may assume the information is
out-of-date.
4. Include a link to your article announcement list signup form in
your signature files.
5. Write your article in the third person and not as an ad. Webmasters
may like your article, but if it sounds like a blatant sales pitch,
they won't include it in their ezine or Web site.
6. Make sure the content of your article supports your Web site's
end goal. If your goal is to sell televisions, then include information
that will help the reader make an informed purchasing decision about
televisions. If it's to solicit their business to purchase your service,
provide information on how your type of service can benefit them.
